SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - All Star closer Brian Wilson was put on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation on Sunday, sidelining the San Francisco pitcher during the Giants' push toward a potential post-season berth.

The move is retroactive to August 16, meaning the right-hander will be eligible to be activated on August 31.

Wilson felt discomfort in his right elbow during his last appearance on Monday when he blew a save against the Atlanta Braves.

The Giants (68-60) trail the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks by 1- games in the National League West and are eight games behind Atlanta in the wild card race.
