Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Cruz Azul climbed to the top of the Mexican Clausura table on Saturday following a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Guadalajara at the Estadio Omnilife.

Both sides struggled to find their footing during a scoreless opening 45 minutes, but the visiting side struck first four minutes into the half through a goal from Mauro Formica.

Three minutes later Cruz Azul doubled its advantage when Rogelio Martinez fired home his first goal of the Clausura campaign.

Guadalajara had the better of possession throughout the 90 minutes, but could manage only three attempts on target and suffered its first defeat of the season.

Cruz Azul took a one-point lead over second-place America with the victory, while Guadalajara remains in 12th place with six points through five games.

Elsewhere in Mexico on Saturday, Miguel Layun's eighth-minute wonder-strike was enough to power America to a 1-0 win over 10-man Atlante, while Javier Penuelas scored a pair of goals in a two-minute span to give Santos a 2-0 result over Toluca.

Alberto Medina netted the only goal of the match eight minutes from time to send Puebla to a 1-0 win over Veracruz, while Rodrigo Millar's 55th-minuute tally made 1-0 winners of Atlas against Pachuca.

Carlos Ochoa scored nine minutes into proceedings as Jaguares held on for a 1-0 result against Queretaro, while Saturday's final Liga MX fixture between Monterrey and Tigres finished scoreless.

On Sunday, Daniel Luduena, Dario Veron and David Cabrera all scored to lead UNAM to a comfortable 3-0 win over Tijuana, while Friday's action saw Morelia and Leon share the points.
