The Dutch club AZ Alkmaar has extended the contract of American-Icelandic forward Aron Johannsson through the 2017-18 season.
Johannsson, a member of the U.S. World Cup team, joined AZ from Denmark's Aarhus in January 2013 and scored 26 goals this season. He has two goals in eight games for the United States, including the second in Tuesday's 2-0 exhibition win over Azerbaijan in San Francisco.
The 23-year-old was born in Mobile, Alabama, and moved to Iceland with his parents when he was 3.
AZ announced the new deal Friday.
