Coach K divulges his celebrity crush

File this under things you never expected to hear Mike Krzyzewski say : "I'm madly in love with Beyonce."

Some context: Coach K addressed a group of Duke students camping out for basketball tickets on Saturday. And during his address, Krzyzewski started talking about his street cred.

Now, there's no denying that Krzyzewski has street cred. The man has coached Duke to four national championships and led the U.S. Olympic team to two gold medals -- with a third likely to come in 2016. Guys respect him, and there's a validity to his popularity among the world's best athletes.

But despite his accolades, Krzyzewski still felt the need to explain why he's not some 66-year-old fogey -- so he shared a story about the time he presented LeBron James with the SI Sportsman of the Year award last December.

Krzyzewski started by talking about how LeBron called him up to specifically request that he be the presenter -- let me pick that name up for you, Mike -- and then he went on to detail how he ended up sitting next to Jay-Z and Beyonce at the ceremony. And, well, I'll let him take it from there:

"I really love Jay-Z, I do, I love Jay-Z," Krzyzewski told the students. "But I'm madly in love with Beyonce.

"I admit it. My three daughters, my wife of 44 years knows it; they're not worried. Just because I'm still competitive, I think there's a shot in hell, at least, that something might happen. If I stop thinking that way, then I stop coaching. You have to always think you can win."

Krzyzewski could have stopped right there, and that would have been enough to forever change my perception of him and the Duke basketball program. But then he delved into how he actually got to meet Beyonce, and that's when things really got interesting:

"So anyway," he said. "I go up on stage and I do 10 minutes and say really great things about LeBron, Jay-Z and, of course, Beyonce. The event's over, and this is where my street cred, like, was bouncing all over the world.

"I'm asked to come up on stage and take a picture with LeBron and Jay-Z. So it's LeBron, Jay, and K. It's on Twitter, Instagram, I don't know, was Vine going then? It's on all that crap. I mean in Hong Kong, Beijing, Moscow. My s--t's going all over the place. I am the coolest 65-year-old.

"However, what I want has not happened yet. I want to meet Beyonce.

"So I go off stage, I have to catch a plane to go back to Duke, and I go up to Beyonce. You know how guys think they have a lot of good lines? And, so I go up, and I'm nervous as I can be. I'm like a teenager. And I go to her with a great line. I say, 'Hi, I'm Coach K.' And she said, 'Coach, I know who you are. I just listened to you for 10 minutes.' It's like patting me on the head. Little boy.

"So now I feel like I'm 11. And so what's my next line? I come up and I say, 'You're my favorite.' My face is red as can be, you know, I'm like 4 feet tall right now. And she says, 'Well, that's nice.' And I asked her -- and I don't usually do this -- but I said, 'Would you take a picture with me?' So she takes a picture with me and I look, really, like I'm 12.

"But my street cred, as big as the other one was, goes everywhere."

So there you have it. Mike Krzyzewski is crazy in love with Beyonce -- who isn't? -- but unlike you or I, he had the stones put himself on her radar when he had a chance. And if you were wondering why he looked so embarrassed in this Instagram shot from last December, now you know the answer:
