China's Guan wins Asian Amateur

Bangkok, Thailand – China's Tianlang Guan closed with a 1- under 71 on Sunday to win the fourth Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.

Guan, who played the final two rounds in minus-1, finished at 15-under-par 273. With the victory, the 14-year-old Guan will earn an invitation to the 2013 Masters and gains a spot in the International Final Qualifying for The Open Championship

The teenager was comfortably ahead after two rounds, but nearly let the title slip away. Guan birdied the second and fourth at Amata Spring Country Club, but gave those strokes back as he bogeyed the par-5 seventh and par-4 ninth.

Guan, who started the week as the 490th ranked amateur in the world, got back into red figures for his round with a birdie on No. 11. He also birdied the 14th, but stumbled to a bogey at 16. He parred the final two holes to seal the win.

Cheng-tsung Pan, the 12th ranked amateur, fired a 7-under 65 to take second place at minus-14. Oliver Goss managed a 72 on Sunday to end alone in third at 12-under 276. Goss is the 28th ranked amateur in the world, and is a freshman at the University of Tennessee.

Hideki Matsuyama, the 2010 and 2011 champion, posted a 4-under 68 to end in fourth at 10-under 278.
