Bolt DQd from 100 final after false start

Daegu, South Korea – World record holder Usain Bolt was disqualified for a false start Sunday and eliminated from the final of the men's 100 meters at the track and field world championships.

Bolt set the record of 9.58 seconds in Berlin two years ago and is the reigning Olympic champion. But he clearly left early from lane 5 -- a shocking turn in track and field's marquee event.

The Jamaican may have been the first to notice the error, immediately pulling off his jersey and throwing it onto the track as the crowed groaned around him.

Fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake, in lane 6 beside Bolt, went on to win the final in 9.92 seconds. American Walter Dix was second at 10.08 seconds and Kim Collins from Saint Kitts and Nevis took third place, just .01 seconds further back.

Bolt had won his qualifying heat on Saturday at 10.10 seconds and finished first in his semifinal heat Sunday at 10.05 seconds. He was bounced from the eight-man final under IAAF Rule 162.7 regarding false starts.
