Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack will be unavailable for the first leg of the club's Champions League round of 16 encounter with Barcelona on Tuesday.

The former Germany international injured his calf muscle in training on Sunday and will now miss Tuesday's match at the BayArena, although the length of his absence has yet to be determined.

The 35-year-old Ballack has made 14 league appearances for Bayer this season, but was left on bench for the third successive match in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Leverkusen is also going to be without Sidney Sam and Eren Derdiyok because of injury.
