Oakland Athletics first baseman Nate Freiman has been named the American League's Rookie of the Month for May.

Freiman batted .351 with one home run and nine RBI in 14 games. He had a career-best four-game hitting streak from May 26-29, going 6-for-11 with seven RBI during that span. He also complied four multi-hit games in May.

The 26-year-old was second in RBI, fourth in doubles (three) and tied for sixth in hits (13) and homers among AL rookies.

Other players considered included fellow Athletic Dan Straily, Indians pitcher Cody Allen, Angels pitcher Robert Coello, Red Sox infielder Jose Iglesias, Rangers pitcher Justin Grimm, Preston Claiborne and Vidal Nuno of the New York Yankees, and Ryan Pressly and Oswaldo Arcia of the Minnesota Twins.
