American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco says any restructuring of major college football should have his re-invented league included at the top level.

Aresco opened the first football media day for the conference formerly known as the Big East by touting its accomplishments and making the case that his league is not so dissimilar to the big five.

The commissioners of the five most powerful conferences have been pushing the NCAA to reform its rules and policies. They have even suggested it could lead to the creation of a new level of college sports.

Aresco says: "Whatever the highest level of Division I is in the future, we expect to be part of it."
