Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Francisco 49ers activated linebacker NaVorro Bowman from the reserve/physically unable to perform list on Tuesday.

Bowman was recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee sustained during San Francisco's loss to Seattle in last January's NFC Championship Game.

A third-round pick of the 49ers in the 2010 NFL Draft, Bowman appeared in all 64 games for the team from 2010 to 2013 and started every game in which he played in each of the past three seasons. He registered career highs in tackles (192), sacks (five), forced fumbles (four) and interceptions (two) in 2013.

To make room on the roster, the Niners placed tight end Vance McDonald on injured reserve. McDonald has placed in eight games this season, registering two catches for 30 yards.
