Former NFL superstar Terrell Owens has put his home in Sherman Oaks, CA, up for sale for $2.35 million -- less than 18 months after he and his now-estranged wife bought the property.
Neil Klemow, the listing agent, says the Nantucket-style house "really spoke" to the former wide receiver when he saw it in 2014. "It's large, but it's still really homey and comfortable. There are five bedrooms, three up and two down. The master is upstairs."
The two-story, 4,250-square-foot home was built in 2013 and sits on a corner lot. It has a plantation-style wraparound porch, French white oak flooring, a huge walk-in pantry, and a gigantic walk-in closet. That closet is where Owens kept his insane shoe collection -- which is now available for purchase (you'll need to be a size 14 if you want to walk in his shoes). Each bedroom has its own bathroom, and the kitchen sports high-end appliances as well as a bar.
Out back is a covered family room and a pool-spa combo with water feature, all enclosed by a fence.
Owens' wife, Rachel Snider, filed for divorce just three days after marrying Owens in January 2014, according to TMZ. She alleges Owens used her to qualify for the mortgage. Property records show both names listed on the deed transfer.
As with his personal life, Owens' football career had its fair share of controversy. Over the course of 15 NFL seasons with six teams he was frequently fined, penalized, and ostracized. But Klemow says Owens is "misunderstood."
"Those were the 'T.O. days,' these are the 'Terrell days,' you know? He's very nice, very pleasurable, very religious. He's the contrary of what people might think he's like because of his antics on the field. In person he's very quiet, very reserved. He's a straight shooter with a good value system," Klemow says.
While his outlandish end-zone celebrations earned attention from folks who didn't even follow football, the 41-year-old was an indisputable force on the gridiron, racking up 15,934 receiving yards and 153 receiving touchdowns.
"He's going into the Hall of Fame; it's just a question of time. He might not get the first vote, but he will eventually," says Klemow.
While the home won't be elected into the housing Hall of Fame, Klemow notes that it has a high walkability factor and the second story offers great views. Plus, he says, the Sherman Oaks neighborhood comes with a certain amount of prestige. But there's one key additional factor:
"No. 81 lived here," he says.
