Just a block from the bustle of Bourbon Street, this Creole cottage may look run-down, but its interiors are surprisingly glamorous.
Musician Lenny Kravitz bought the 19th-century home in 1994. The rocker-turned-designer then gutted the interiors, preserving what the listing refers to as an “artfully distressed exterior.”
Kravitz sold the property to architect Brian Swier for $655,000 in 2012, according to public records. Swier—who specializes in music venue design—did some remodeling of his own, including expanding the mezzanine level and adding a spiral staircase imported from France. The project took seven months to complete, according to Swier's representative Leia Menlove.

The 1,811-square-foot cottage has one bedroom and two bathrooms. The master bathroom—which overlooks a tiny courtyard—features a rain shower and a Japanese soaking tub.
Menlove declined to disclose how much Swier spent on the renovations. She said the architect is selling the property because he works primarily in New York and Los Angeles, and is spending less time in New Orleans.
"This exceptional home is for the adventurer, the artist, the wild-at-heart, or simply the appreciator of the poetics of space," Menlove said.
A representative for Kravitz could not be reached for comment.
