Veteran college football coach Tommy Tuberville has been calling a series of audibles to sell his former home in Alabama, lowering the asking price four times from 2009 to 2013 before taking the five-bedroom, 4.5-bath home off the market in November 2013.
Now he seems to be reading from a new playbook, listing the home for sale in June at $1.7 million, $10,000 higher than when it was taken off the market in 2013. The 5,600-square-foot home sits on a little more than 2 acres of land on an inlet of Alabama's Lake Martin.
"Lake Martin is where [you] buy a house when you've got the world by the balls. Tommy purchased himself a big one and, as we all know these days, the biggins' are the hardest ones to unload," wrote BustedCoverage.com when Tuberville was trying to sell the home in 2011.
The house features an in-ground swimming pool with waterfront views. Inside, there are two fireplaces and two laundry rooms. There's even a two-car garage. The master bedroom is on the first floor, which also features an open kitchen, dining, and living area.
The house was listed for $2.38 million in July 2009, then relisted in April 2010 for $1.98 million. In June 2011, the price was cut to $1.75 million, then cut again at the end of 2012 to $1.7 million. The asking price fell to $1.69 million in March 2013, and the home was taken off the market later in the year.
Tuberville coached Auburn from 1998 through the 2008 season, losing his post in 2009. He moved on to coach at Texas Tech in 2010, while keeping his house in Dadeville, AL, about 25 miles northwest of Auburn.
He left Texas Tech after an incident in which he knocked the hat and headset off a team graduate assistant during a 2012 game against Kansas, something he later apologized for. He became the head football coach at Cincinnati in late 2012, coaching his first season there in 2013.
When it comes to selling his Alabama house, Tuberville is likely hoping he can pull off a Hail Mary play and finally get the place off his hands. Doug Cannon of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is the listing agent.
