U.S. special operations troops are helping rescue hostages, including some Americans, from a hotel in Mali, where an active shooter situation was reported Friday morning.

U.S. Africa Command said in a tweet that it is monitoring the situation closely and that a "small group" of special operations forces are helping with hostage rescue operations.

Gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles launched an attack around 7 a.m. Friday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako, the capital of the west African nation. The attackers took dozens of hostages and have reportedly killed at least three people, according to CNN.
