Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is standing by his recent comments that illegal immigrants coming from Mexico are “killers” and “rapists.”
Wednesday night while talking with CNN’s Don Lemon, Trump said the statistics from a Fusion article show what he said is true.
“Well if you look at the statistics of people coming, you look at the statistics on rape, on crime, on everything coming in illegally into this country it’s mind-boggling!” he told Lemon.
Trump went on to say, “If you go to Fusion, you will see a story: About 80% of the women coming in, you know who owns Fusion? Univision! Go to Fusion and pick up the stories on rape. It’s unbelievable when you look at what’s going on. So all I’m doing is telling the truth.”
Lemon then pointed out the statistics Trump used were about women being raped while en route to the United States, not necessarily rapists coming across the border into the United States.
Trump, though, was having none of it.
“Well, somebody’s doing the raping, Don. I mean somebody’s doing it. You say there’s women being raped, so who’s doing the raping? Who’s doing the raping?” he asked.
Lemon quickly changed the subject to Macy’s, which earlier Wednesday cut ties with Trump for the comments he made about illegal immigrants.
In a statement, the company said it stands for diversity and inclusion and has no tolerance for discrimination in any form.
“We welcome all customers, and respect for the dignity of all people is a cornerstone of our culture. We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico,” the statement read.
Trump didn’t appear too concerned, though, calling Macy’s a small business that just folded under pressure.
“That’s the problem with our country, everybody folds under pressure,” Trump told Lemon. “Instead of doing the right thing, they get two picketers and they immediately say ‘Oh, gee, we have to do this, there’s pressure.'”
Twitter exploded over Trump’s comments, with users taking sides on just who is “doing the raping.”
