Senate Minority Leader McConnell Supports O'Donnell

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is not backing away from supporting Delaware Republican primary winner Christine O'Donnell, the leader's spokesman, Don Stewart, confirmed to Fox Wednesday.

"He doesn't say one thing Tuesday and another Wednesday," Stewart said. To MSNBC's Chuck Todd, McConnell emphatically declared, "I'm going to support the Republican nominee for the Senate anywhere in America."

It is unclear if McConnell's Bluegrass Committee PAC will donate to O'Donnell. Castle received $10,000 for his failed run, an amount given to a number of candidates, including Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire. McConnell has shelled out $335,000 through his PAC this cycle to more than 30 candidates for Senate and eight candidates for the House.

That support does not appear to be echoed by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which honcho's the party's Senate campaign efforts. An NRSC official made clear Tuesday night that it has no plans to assist the Tea Party Express-backed O'Donnell financially. O'Donnell has struggled on the money front, though outside groups have pitched in.

And a statement of support from the committee's chairman, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Tex., a McConnell confidante, was noticeably absent, as well, Tuesday night, as the party's chosen candidate, Rep. Mike Castle, fell under the weight of GOP voter anger.
