Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-MT, released his proposal for health care reform Wednesday.

Some key points of the plan:
- it would cost $856 billion over 10 years
- it does not contain a public option
- it would cover 95% of Americans
- illegal immigrants would not receive government benefits
- it would be paid for through fees levied on the insurance companies, drug makers, manufacturers and insurers; there would also be a tax of 35% on premiums paid on insurance plans costing more than $8,000 for individuals and $21,000 for families
