It’s turned into a nail biter of an evening.

At the headquarters of Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey, campaign officials are preparing for a long night. Moments ago the crowd was told by a campaign official “its as close a race as can be.”

Toomey and his Democratic rival are vying for the seat of retiring senator Arlen Specter. Recent polls showed Toomey with a slight advantage. Some analysts say the outcome of the race will depend on which way voters lean in the four suburban counties outside predominantly democratic Philadelphia.

State wide democratic voters outnumber democrats. Toomey has told Fox that his campaign is targeting registered democrats who have expressed dissatisfaction with the Obama administration.
