Obama Releases First Spanish-Language Political Ad

WASHINGTON, DC – Just days after the Republican National Committee announced a national push among Hispanic voters in six battleground states, the Obama campaign is running its first Spanish-language television ads aimed at rallying support among Hispanics, an increasingly important voting bloc.

The four television spots each feature an Obama supporter talking about the president's education policies, including improving Head Start centers that serve over 362,000 Hispanic children and increasing funding for Pell Grants to help nearly 2 million Hispanic students pay for college.

The ads will air in Colorado, Nevada and Florida, political battleground states with growing Hispanic populations. The campaign says the ads are the first in a series of Spanish-language ads.

The campaign also announced a wider appeal to Hispanics Wednesday, launching "Latinos for Obama." The effort is aimed at increasing Hispanic voter registration and helping Hispanics volunteer for the Obama campaign.

The Republican National Committee announced on Monday the launch of an assertive Hispanic outreach campaign in six battleground states, with the assertion that President Obama lied to the community.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said the campaign has set up Hispanic outreach directors in Florida, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina and Virginia.

Priebus emphasized that the party will be pursuing Latino voters in Florida like never before. He noted that the Florida outreach campaign will have “a specific Cuban component.”

“I want to engage at a grassroots and door-to-door level,” he said in a telephone press conference.

"The Hispanic community is the country's fastest growing demographic,” Priebus said, "and will play a pivotal role in helping the country change direction from the failed leadership and policies of Barack Obama.”

Although this is the Obama Campaign's first Spanish-language ad, allied groups like the SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, and Priorities USA Action, the super-PAC helping President Barack Obama's re-election campaign, have previously released Spanish-language radio ads airing in Florida  attacking Mitt Romney.
