In an exchange highlighted by Republicans during the Democratic debate, Hillary Clinton said she wants to "save capitalism from itself."

"I don't think we should have to confuse what we have to do every so often in America, which is save capitalism from itself," Clinton said. "And I think what Sen. Sanders is saying certainly makes sense in the terms of the inequality that we have."

Sanders has routinely avoided criticizing Clinton personally on the campaign trail, but has sought to draw distinctions between the two candidates' records. As Jeb Bush campaign communications director Tim Miller watched the budding friendship unfold on CNN's debate stage, he warned of more to come.

"You'll see this again: "What Senator Sanders Is Saying Certainly Makes Sense," Miller tweeted. "Hillary/Bernie 16."
