CHICAGO -- Sen. Roland Burris' former partner told FOX News on Thursday that he did have a "brief conversation" with the U.S. senator about raising money for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, but said he never attempted to do so.

Fred Lebed wouldn't go into details about how much money they discussed raising, but when asked if he ever raised money for Blagojevich, Lebed said, "No, never," before adding, "I don't believe I did" and then well, "maybe $100, five years ago."

Burris is facing investigation on possible perjury charges for omitting critical information about conversations he had with the governor's allies on fundraising for Blagojevich, who appointed Burris to the seat vacated by President Obama.

The 30-year friend of the senator said he spoke with Burris on Thursday and described him as "not in bad spirits." Lebed said he talks with Burris regularly, but doesn't know where he will be on Thursday.

Asked if Burris mentioned anything about calls on him to resign, Lebed said he can't comment on that because it never came up in their conversation. Lebed said the two also did not discuss whether Burris plans to run for election in 2010.

Lebed said he's had no contact at all with federal investigators looking at possible pay to play schemes by the governor but couldn't comment further because his attorneys have instructed him not to say anything to the media about Burris' situation.

Meanwhile, Burris' base of support appears to be eroding further. A Chicago minister told The Associated Press on Thursday that he and other black pastors who previously supported Burris now plan to ask him to resign.
