Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, says he'll now support Rep. Paul Ryan as the next House speaker, should he run.
"[I]f Chairman Ryan runs and becomes the nominee, I will support him on the floor," Amash told the Detroit News.
Amash is one of the more vocal critics of the current House Republican leadership, and his support for Ryan will likely help Ryan succeed Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.
Wednesday night, a supermajority of the House Freedom Caucus said it would support Ryan, although the caucus failed to reach the 80 percent of its membership that was needed to win an official endorsement from the group.
Still, the majority support in the group for Ryan is enough to give him the job if he wants it. Ryan is expecting to announce his decision on whether to run on Friday.
