A new service starting in London will allow women to get the morning after pill delivered by bike messenger so it arrives within two hours at their home or office.
For £20 ($32), women would be able to order the emergency contraception online by filling out a form on internet medical practice DrEd.com.
The forms will be assessed by doctors before pills are dispatched by courier within two hours on a working day. They could also be ordered overnight for delivery the following morning.
Critics claim the service could encourage underage sex. However Amit Khutti, founder of DrEd, said a date of birth was required during registration and patients needed a credit card to pay.
He told The (London) Daily Telegraph on Tuesday, "Emergency contraception works better the sooner you take it, so having it delivered within two hours will make it more likely to be effective. I don't think this service is going to appeal to minors or encourage underage sex."
The bike messenger service will start in London this month but could be extended if successful.
Morning after pills will arrive in "discreet packaging" so women can avoid embarrassment at work.
