Indiana puppy shot dozens of times with BBs and pellets, police say

An Indiana puppy is lucky to be alive after it was shot dozens of times with BBs and pellets last Saturday.

The 100-pound English Mastiff pup, named Jackson, was roaming in a fenced-in backyard in Seymour when it was shot 27 times, according to Fox 59.

Jackson's owner, Hayden Howard, said she initially didn't notice the wounds because the puppy wasn't acting differently.

“He had some marks on him and we thought they were bug bites and stuff,” Howard told Fox 59.

She soon realized those "bites" were actually holes. She took him to the veterinarian the next day and found out Jackson's body was covered in BBs and pellets, including one lodged in its eyelid, ear and knee.

"They were just kind of looking at all the little holes and stuff and the more they shaved him, they just kept finding more and more," Howard said.

"I was in shock, I didn’t even know what to think."

The veterinarian removed 20 BBs and seven pellets from Jackson, according to Fox 59.

Investigators said they found several BBs lodged in a tree in Howard's backyard. Police estimated more than 60 BBs and pellets were fired at the puppy.

Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the attack. A $500 reward is being offered to anyone with information in the case.

In the meantime, Jackson is recovering from the attack.

"He’s well, he’s home taking medicine and everything," Howard said.
