MANILA, Philippines – U.N. agencies say they will seek funds for a 12-month plan to revive areas devastated by a super typhoon in the central Philippines in addition to $348 million they had sought for immediate relief.
Orla Fagan of the U.N. Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Manila said Friday that the plan will be put together with aid groups and may be ready next month.
Simon Hills, a disaster response officer of the International Labor Organization, says 5.6 million workers have lost their livelihoods, including 2.4 million who already were among the very poor before Typhoon Haiyan ploughed through the country's Visayas region early this month.
The government disaster agency says nearly 5,600 people have been killed, more than 1,700 are missing and over 3.8 million have been displaced.
