UK: Europe to Discuss Freezing Egyptian Assets

LONDON – Britain's Foreign Secretary says European Union finance ministers are discussing a request to freeze assets held by members of President Hosni Mubarak's former regime.

William Hague told the House of Commons on Monday that Egypt's military rulers had requested that the U.K. and others take action.

He said Britain and European allies would freeze accounts if there is any evidence of "illegality or misuse of state assets."
