Military prosecutors in Taiwan say they have indicted a major general on charges of providing military secrets to China.

Lo Hsien-che has been in detention since February. His case is viewed as one of the most serious security breaches in modern Taiwanese history.

Military prosecutors indicted Lo on Friday and said they will seek a sentence of life in prison.

News reports say Lo leaked information about an integrated command, communications and control network that Taiwan is establishing with U.S. infrastructure.

Taiwan and China split amid civil war in 1949. Despite improving relations over the past three years, the two sides routinely engage in espionage against each other.
