BRUSSELS – NATO says its next summit will take place July 8-9, 2016 in Warsaw, Poland as the alliance continues to reshape itself to meet new security challenges.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who made the announcement Friday, said the meeting "comes at a crucial time for the alliance, as the tectonic plates of Euro-Atlantic security have shifted" due to Russian actions and the rise of Islamic extremism in the Mideast and North Africa.
President Obama and other NATO leaders last met in Wales in September. They agreed on a Readiness Action Plan to adapt the 28-nation alliance to the new security environment.
The leaders agreed then to hold their next summit in Warsaw_a symbolic location, since it is the capital of a former Soviet satellite state that now belongs to NATO.
