A driver has been killed when a car struck a wild boar and then was hit by a truck on an English highway.

Police say the Seat Ibiza car hit the animal on the M4 motorway in southwest England on Monday evening. A truck then slammed into the car. The car's driver, who has not been identified, was killed.

Wiltshire Police said Tuesday that the truck driver was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Wild boar, which typically weigh between 100 and 200 pounds (45-90 kilograms) in adulthood, were hunted to extinction in Britain in the Middle Ages. They were reintroduced by farmers several decades ago, and escaping boars have helped the species make a comeback in the wild.
