Leaders of Nepal's three major political parties have discussed formation of a new government following the adoption of a new constitution last month.

Narayankaji Shrestha of the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist said the parties are attempting to form a government with representation from the main political parties in parliament. He said they were unable to reach agreement on Monday.

Parliament is likely to vote next week on a prime minister to lead a new government. The constitution says parliament will then vote on a new president.

Khadga Prasad Oli of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist is expected to be the new prime minister.
