Japan says its economy contracted 1.6 pct in July-Sept in 2nd straight quarter of minus growth

TOKYO – Japan reports its economy has contracted at a real annual rate of 1.6 percent in July-September in the second straight quarterly decline.

The negative growth figure released Monday for the world's third-biggest economy was much lower than most economists had forecast and follows a 7.1 percent contraction in April-June.
