The Israeli military says that an airstrike has killed a Gaza militant as he was preparing to launch rockets, the latest casualty in a week-long exchange of attacks between the coastal territory and Israel.

Gaza health official Ashraf Al Kedra confirmed a death and an injury from the Friday strike. Witnesses say that the two were militants.

Israel's military spokesman's office says Palestinian militants fired two rockets at Israel earlier in the day that caused no injuries, and 12 rockets the day before.

Violence flared up this week when militants infiltrated across the border from Egypt and killed an Israeli. A shadowy Al Qaeda-linked group claimed responsibility.

Israeli airstrikes on Gaza militant targets have since killed at least six Palestinians, and Israel says militants have launched over 100 rockets.
