Brazil's national Indian foundation says researchers flew over an isolated tribe's village and found it abandoned but apparently unharmed in spite of incursions in the area by suspected Peruvian drug traffickers.

The alleged criminals had invaded and looted one of the foundation's bases in late July. Officials were concerned because they found an arrowhead belonging to the tribe in a backpack abandoned by the suspects.

The foundation says in a statement that researchers found the tribe's homes and plantations to be in good condition when they flew over. They are concerned, however, that the Indians themselves did not appear.

The tribe lives in a protected area in the state of Acre, 20 miles from the border with Peru.
