Bomb blast in crowded market kills 3, injures 15 in India

A crude bomb exploded Wednesday in a crowded market in northeastern India, killing at least three people and injuring 15 others, police said.

A police official in Imphal, the capital of Manipur state, said the blast occurred when the market was crowded with shoppers. It killed two tea sellers and the owner of a shop selling chicken, he said.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity, citing office policy.

More than two dozen rebel groups are active in the state.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
