Polish police say two nights of rioting near Warsaw over the death of a teenager stopped by the police has left eight people hurt and 21 detained.

Hundreds of people turned out Sunday and Monday evening in front of the police station in the town of Legionowo to remember a 19-year-old, identified only as Rafal W. They blamed his death last week on the police. The gatherings turned into rioting.

The teenager passed out while trying to swallow a drug packet when a police patrol stopped him. He died in the hospital.

Police spokesman Mariusz Mrozek said Tuesday that 13 people were detained the previous night and a policeman was injured by a bottle. Seven other people were hurt and eight were detained Sunday night, he said.
