Vikings DT Williams has hyperextended knee, no ligament damage

Eden Prairie, MN – The Minnesota Vikings got a bit of good news Monday, as an MRI on defensive tackle Kevin Williams' injured right knee revealed no ligament damage.

Williams was injured during Sunday's preseason game against San Francisco when he was hit low by 49ers offensive guard Joe Looney.

At first the injury was thought to be serious, but Monday's MRI revealed a hyperextended right knee and a significant bone contusion.

"Kevin Williams suffered a hyperextension injury to his right knee in last night's football game," Minnesota head coach Leslie Frazier said in a statement released Monday. "An MRI exam today revealed a significant bone contusion as well as a posterior capsular strain. Kevin was fortunate in that there was no injury to any of his ligaments."

Williams, a six-time Pro-Bowler, started all 16 games for Minnesota last season, compiling 30 tackles, two sacks and seven passes defensed.
