KANSAS CITY, Kan. – For nearly 90 minutes, the Seattle Sounders looked like just another notch in Sporting Kansas City's club-record unbeaten string.
However, with late goals from Mauro Rosales and Lamar Neagle, Seattle became the first MLS team to beat Kansas City in 2½ months and the first to win a road game in the new Livestrong Sporting Park.
Rosales and Neagle scored less than two minutes apart at the close of the second half, giving Seattle a 2-1 win Saturday night and snapping Sporting Kansas City's 14-match unbeaten streak.
"You can tell that our effort is always there," said Neagle, whose game-winner came in the second minute of stoppage time. "At the end of the game we're still striving to get that win no matter what the score is."
Kansas City (7-7-9) lost its first game since May 21 — a 1-0 defeat at Seattle — to end a 6-0-8 stretch.
Rosales tied the game at 1 in the 90th minute for Seattle (11-5-8), and Neagle's game-winner came on a loose-ball scramble in the area.
"We picked up two good goals, and actually at the time when it was 1-1, we would have been satisfied," Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said, "but then Mauro made another play and we got ourselves another goal. "
The loss left Sporting's players stunned.
"We were doing a good job, playing very well," said Kansas City keeper Jimmy Nielsen, who appeared headed for a shutout on his 34th birthday before the late scores. "To give up two goals in the last few minutes is extremely painful."
Sporting forward Omar Bravo was issued a straight red card-his second of the year and Kansas City's club-record seventh of the year-for a hard challenge on Pat Noonan in the 59th minute.
Kei Kamara's leaping header, off a long throw-in from Matt Besler, put Kansas City up 1-0 in the 20th minute.
