Sigurdsson opts for Spurs

Tottenham announced on Wednesday that the club has signed Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim.

Sigurdsson enjoyed a great spell of play while on loan at Swansea City last season, and despite the move expected to become a permanent one, the Swans were unable to fend off bigger clubs in pursuit of the 22-year-old.

With Swansea last season, Sigurdsson tallied seven goals in 19 appearances, but new manager Michael Laudrup acknowledged that it would be tough keep him as teams like Liverpool and Tottenham were lining up.

Sigurdsson spent two seasons in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim before joining Swansea on loan last term, and he becomes the first signing for new Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, who was appointed as coach of the club on Tuesday.
