Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers signed pitcher Tommy Hanson to a one-year contract Friday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Hanson spent last season with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He missed over a month from late June to late July with right forearm strain, and then did not appear in a game from early August to late September.
The right-hander ended up appearing in just 15 games, 13 as a starter, going 4-3 with a 5.42 earned run average in just 73 innings pitched. LA non-tendered Hanson in early December.
The 6-foot-6 Oklahoma native has racked up a 49-35 record and 3.80 ERA over 123 games (121 starts) for the Braves and Halos since 2009.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Hanson, the team has placed left-handed pitcher Joseph Ortiz on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured left foot.
Ortiz suffered the fractured left foot in his native Venezuela late last month and underwent surgery on January 31. He went 2-2 with a 4.23 ERA over 32 relief appearances for the Rangers in his major league debut in 2013.
