Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittsburgh Pirates activated pitcher A. J. Burnett from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.
Burnett will start against the Cardinals in place of Kevin Correia, who was scratched after experiencing discomfort in his left side.
Burnett was acquired from the New York Yankees in the offseason in exchange for reliever Diego Moreno and outfielder Exicardo Cayones, and was set to be the Opening Day starter for the Bucs, but he landed on the DL after fracturing his right orbital bone during a bunting drill in spring training.
Burnett spent the past three seasons with the New York Yankees, and finished 2011 with an 11-11 record, a 5.15 earned run average, 173 strikeouts and 83 walks.
