The Carolina Panthers released veteran guard Geoff Hangartner on Thursday.

Hangartner, 31, played 12 games for the Panthers last season. He started the season at right guard but converted to center following Ryan Kalil's season- ending foot injury.

A fifth-round draft pick by the Panthers in 2005, Hangartner has started 55 games for Carolina in six seasons (2005-08, 2011-12). He also played two seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

Hangartner was due to make $1.575 million in the second year on a three-year contract.
