A Northern Illinois linebacker has been released from the hospital two weeks after he was wounded in a drive-by shooting.

Hospital officials say Devon Butler was released from OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford on Tuesday evening. Coach Dave Doeren told the Daily Chronicle in DeKalb that Butler has a lot of rehabilitation work to do.

Authorities say a gunman in an SUV fired into an off-campus apartment building where Butler was visiting with friends on April 5. A judge has set bond at $1 million each for two NIU students accused in the shooting.

Butler is a junior from Pembroke Pines, Fla. He was in on 80 tackles — second on the team — and had 4 1/2 sacks.
