For whatever reason, the Mountain West Conference schedule makers decided to have its top two teams, San Diego State and New Mexico, play each other twice in the final two weeks of the regular season.

The No. 6 Aztecs (23-2, 12-1) are at New Mexico (20-5, 11-2) on Saturday night, where they are 5-3 in their last eight visits to The Pit.

The Lobos visit Viejas Arena for the regular-season finale on March 8.

Brian Dutcher, the top assistant to SDSU coach Steve Fisher, says both teams have established an identity this late in the season.

Says Dutcher: "It's going to be two teams that are pretty confident, pretty happy with where they are right now and ready to be tested."

New Mexico eliminated SDSU from the conference tournament each of the last two seasons.
