New York, NY – San Francisco 49ers defensive end Demarcus Dobbs has been suspended one game by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday that the penalty stems from an arrest for marijuana possession after Dobbs was involved in a single-car accident last November.
Dobbs will sit out the Sept. 8 season opener against Green Bay but will be able to return for the team's matchup at NFC West rival Seattle the following week. He still can participate in the preseason as well as training-camp practices.
The third-year pro has appeared in 12 games in each of the last two seasons for the defending NFC champions.
