New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe has been suspended for two games without pay by the NBA for pleading guilty in Michigan to driving while visibly impaired.

The NBA announced the suspension Tuesday, a day after Monroe signed a one-year qualifying offer with the Pistons for the upcoming season.

The league did not provide details of the incident for which Monroe pleaded guilty and it wasn't immediately clear when it took place.

"The organization is aware of the matter resulting in the NBA's announced two- game suspension for Greg Monroe," the Pistons said in a statement. "Greg has taken responsibility in a conscientious manner and resolved the matter with his representatives."

Monroe said in a statement he takes "full responsibility for my actions and made a regrettable mistake. I apologize to my family, the Pistons organization, my teammates and fans. I will learn from this and continue my work to be a positive influence in the community."

Monroe, 24, was drafted No. 7 overall by the Pistons in 2010 and has averaged 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 309 games for them. He averaged 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season.

He has recorded 101 double-doubles since 2011-12, second-most in the Eastern Conference.

His suspension will be for the first two games of the season.
