Monaco retained its position at the top of the Ligue 1 table on Wednesday as a goal from Emmanuel Riviere and a brace from Radamel Falcao handed the club a 3-0 defeat of Bastia at the Stade Louis II.

The two sides remained level until the 39th minute when Riviere opened the scoring with his sixth league goal of the campaign.

Falcao doubled Monaco's advantage two minutes later to put the home side in a comfortable position, and the Colombia international tacked on a late goal to take the lead in the Ligue 1 scoring chart with seven goals in as many games.

The win sees Monaco improve to 17 points on the season, bringing the club two points clear of PSG after its narrow 1-0 defeat of Valenciennes earlier on Wednesday.

Ajaccio claimed its first win of the Ligue 1 season on Wednesday thanks to a 2-1 defeat of Lyon. Salim Arrache opened the scoring for Ajaccio but Steed Malbranque managed to pull Lyon back level in the 56th minute. Aboubacar Demba Camara bagged the winner for Ajaccio in the 70th minute while Alexandre Lacazette received a late red card to leave visiting Lyon with no way back.

Also on Wednesday, Guingamp ran out to an emphatic 5-1 victory over Sochaux with goals coming from Christophe Mandanne, Claudio Beauvue, Fatih Atik, Younousse Sankhare and Steven Langil, Martin Braithwaite produced the lone goal in Toulouse's 1-0 victory over Lorient, Nantes scored on opposite sides of halftime in a 2-0 defeat of Nice and Bordeaux was held to a 0-0 draw by Reims.
