Miyazaki, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - Hideki Matsuyama topped Hiroshi Iwata on the first playoff hole on Sunday to win the Dunlop Phoenix.

Matsuyama, who won for the sixth time on the Japan Golf Tour, closed with a 1- under 70 at Phoenix Country Club. Iwata fired an 8-under 63 to force a playoff as they ended at 15-under-par 269.

On the front nine, Matsuyama had two birdies and two bogeys to turn at minus-14. He birdied the par-3 11th, but trouble loomed. Matsuyama stumbled to bogeys at 15 and 16, but he rebounded with birdies on the final two holes to force the playoff.

Iwata poured in three consecutive birdies from the fifth and again from the 12th to jump to 13-under. Iwata birdied 16 and 18 to post 15-under, then waited and watched as Matsuyama joined him there.

Jordan Spieth (69) and Brendan Jones (69) shared third place at minus-14. In- Hoi Hur closed with a 2-under 69 to grab fifth at 12-under-par 272.
