Giants' Coughlin agrees to one-year extension

Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin has agreed to a one-year contract extension and will remain with the club through the 2015 season.

Coughlin was set to enter the final year of a contract he signed in June 2012. He told reporters of the new deal Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Giants are coming off a 7-9 season, their first losing record since Coughlin's first year of 2004. The 2013 campaign began with six straight losses, but the Giants went 7-3 over the final 10 games.

Coughlin has a record of 90-70 during his 10-year run with the Giants, a tenure that has been highlighted by a pair of Super Bowl titles. The Giants beat the New England Patriots for both championships, first after the 2007 season and again following the 2011 campaign.

The Giants, however, have not made the playoffs since 2011 and have just one postseason appearance in the past five years.

Coughlin has the second-longest tenure in Giants coaching history, behind only Steve Owen's 24-year stint from 1930-53. His 90 wins trail only Owen's total of 153.

In 18 years as an NFL head coach, including eight with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Coughlin has amassed a record of 158-130. He also has nine playoff appearances and a postseason mark of 12-7.
