Baker Mayfield has been an unexpected surprise this season for Oklahoma at quarterback.

And it appears the Sooners got another surprise on Christmas Eve.

Kyler Murray, who just completed his freshman season at Texas A&M, will transfer to Oklahoma. Murray will sit out next season and be eligible for the 2017 season.

Murray started three games and played in eight this past season for Texas A&M. He threw for 686 yards and ran for 335 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

"We're happy to welcome Kyler to our program," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said in a statement.

Murray was a five-star recruit out of high school in Allen, Texas, High. Murray will join the Sooners this spring.

Meanwhile, OU back-up quarterback Trevor Knight announced he was exploring the idea of transferring. A&M has been rumored to be a possible destination.
