Vina del Mar, Chile (SportsNetwork.com) - Top-seeded Fabio Fognini and former top-10 star Nicolas Almagro were among Thursday's second-round winners at the Chile Open tennis tournament.

Fognini withstood a challenge from Slovenian Aljaz Bedene to record a 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) decision on the red clay at Club Naval, while the third-seeded Almagro overcame Argentine qualifier Martin Alund 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to also advance in the first event on the ATP's 'Golden Swing' through Latin America.

Next up for Fognini will be fifth-seeded Jeremy Chardy after the Frenchman got the better of Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory.

Almagro's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be Japanese newcomer Taro Daniel, who scored the biggest upset of Day 4 by knocking off No. 8 seed Federico Delbonis. The qualifier Daniel, making his ATP World Tour debut this week, ousted Delbonis 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (9-7).

Another second-round result saw Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver take out last year's Vina del Mar champion Horacio Zeballos of Argentina 6-2, 6-4. Zeballos stunned Rafael Nadal in last year's finale to capture his lone career ATP title.
